Most hydraulic pressure instrumentation serves the same purpose, connecting via fitting to a source to visibly read out the pressure, some through an electric display, some with a needle physically moving to the correct pressure value. We calibrate this pressure using a deadweight tester, using a known weight (pounds) and surface area (square inch) to calibrate the pressure reading of your device (pounds per square inch or psi). Using this deadweight method extraneous forces are eliminated provided a clean, consistent, and repeatable measurement traceable to national standards.
