Any time a dedicated external accelerometer is required, such as to structural testing or to measure machine vibrations its likely the accelerometer is a PE or PiezoElectric accelerometer. These accelerometers come in a wide variety of ranges and uses, including extreme temperature charge accelerometers and high frequency IEPE (internal electronics) accelerometers. Using a traceable RULA vibration controller and Bruel & Kjaer shaker and reference standard we calibrate accelerometers using a back-to-back configuration to maximize accuracy.
In more complex vibration applications sometimes knowing the vibration level of only one axis is not sufficient, in which case tri-axial accelerometers are employed. Our RULA vibration controller and industry standard mounting techniques allow us to calibrate all 3 axes of your tri-axial accelerometer with ease.
Vibration meters allow easy, quick to set up vibration measurements without the need for complicated instrumentation and displays, keeping everything in an easy-to-use handheld meter. We are able to calibrate the three main measurements of a vibration meter with the RULA vibration controller system and Bruel & Kjaer reference standard, acceleration, velocity and displacement.
In order to assure accelerometers and vibration meters are working day to day in the field having a reliable hand-held calibrator can be necessary for regular checks. Using the RULA vibration controller’s capabilities we are able to analyze the spectral content of handheld calibrators to ensure that set frequencies and acceleration values are calibrated up to spec, giving a line of traceability.
Impact hammers are used to perform modal analysis on structures, seeing how various structures will react over a wide range of frequencies ranging from things like a car mirror to bridges and buildings. Using Newton’s second law, a known calibrated weight and calibrated accelerometer we can calibrate the sensitivity of your hammer to ensure important structural analysis is accurate.
We’ve recently moved towards upgrading our shock accelerometer calibration set up and are currently testing. Come back at a later date for full details!
